Suspect in Estevan homicide arrested in Calgary

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Calgary and charged with murdering an Estevan resident.

Gurwinder Singh Toor, of Estevan, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Angelo Galido, who was found dead inside his Estevan home on June 7.

According to an RCMP news release issued Thursday, Toor was located at a business on Barlow Trail in Calgary on Wednesday and arrested. He appeared in court in Airdrie on Thursday, and is due to appear by video in Estevan provincial court on Monday.

“Toor and Mr. Galido were known to each other,” according to the RCMP.

Last week, police released a photograph of Galido in hopes of gathering further information in the investigation, being conducted by the RCMP and Estevan Police Service.

At that time, authorities reported that the Estevan police had received a missing persons complaint at 6:30 p.m. on June 7 when Galido failed to arrive for work that day, which was unusual. About three hours later, police found him deceased inside his home on the 800 block of Henry Street. According to the RCMP, Galido was last seen at a business off Highway 39 in Estevan on June 4 at approximately 10 p.m. Investigators were working to establish a timeline of when and where Galido was last seen between 10 p.m. on June 4 and when he was found dead.

“The charges laid in this multi-jurisdictional file is the result of extensive collaboration between many police services and units — from the RCMP in two provinces, Estevan and Calgary Police Services,” Supt. Vince Foy, officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit North, stated in Thursday's release.

“The arrest and charges laid speaks to the extensive work of all involved partners bringing a multitude of experiences, tools and expertise,” he added.
