HAPPY AS THE LAST DAY OF CLASS
On June 18, 1997, students of Holy Rosary students had reason to celebrate. Shown here in this photo by the Leader-post's Terry Chevalier, the students are leaving after their last day of classes. However, while students were happy, members of the Catholic school board were not. To combat overcrowding, Catholic school divisions wanted to build new schools. However, in terms of financing from the Education department, joint-use school proposals received higher priority than single-board proposals, which didn't sit well with the Catholics. A Lloydminster board member accused then-education minister Pat Atkinson as showing “disregard for our minority rights.”
